Collaborations
The Merchant's Table
Lovely Lydia
The Merchant’s Table is a shop selling objects for the home, hand crafted by independent British makers and artists, with a focus on local communities in Suffolk and London.
They believe in bringing customers closer to the individuals behind the work and hold workshops and supper events throughout the year, in which makers and producers share their craft or skill.
The Merchant’s Table is the concept of Susanna Cook, Creative Director of Allies Design Studio; a Suffolk design studio that creates branding, packaging, literature, merchandising and overall styling for principled, visionary food clients, the best within their field.
Aspen Press was invited to work with Susanna to produce The Merchant’s Table letterpress and stationery products to her design. These include notebooks and greetings cards including the 2019, 2020 and 2021 TMT Christmas cards.
Lydia Finney is an artist, printer and maker of original and authentic gifts, accessories and homeware.
Her designs are inspired by the idyllic corner of the Suffolk Coast in which she lives, images of hares and foxes, crabs and lobsters amongst a host of others. She loves to print on natural linen and cotton fabrics, with everything she makes being proudly handprinted and handsewn by her.
To complement her beautiful hand crafted products, Lydia commissioned Aspen Press to produce individually hot foiled swing tags.
Walker's Journal
Pump Street Bakery
Pump Street Bakery and Chocolate company is an award-winning bakery in the village of Orford on Suffolk’s Heritage Coast. After mastering naturally-leavened bread, they ventured into making chocolate from beans they import directly from single estates and cooperatives around the world.
Aspen Press produces cards for their mail order service with letterpress, foiling and deboss finishes.
The story of Walkers Journal began when two stationery fanatics got together!
Pat, who runs Aspen Press along with husband Roger, handmakes beautiful notebooks and cards printed on vintage letterpress machines using high quality paper and card milled in the UK.
And Sally, a graphic designer for over 30 years, whose business, Drab Ltd., produces well considered designs for a wide range of purposes and is happiest choosing exciting and appropriate type, colours and paper for clients.
Pat had been toying with the idea of producing a journal and one discussion with Sally was quickly followed by another and then another... and the concept of the journal and a collaboration began to form!
The initial task, after the excitement of the newly forged relationship, was to come up with a name.
Now, Pat’s surname is Walker and, coincidentally, Sally’s mother’s maiden name was also Walker so ‘Walkers Journal’ seemed entirely appropriate. (And no, Pat and Sally are not related however much they wish they were!).
Walkers Journal will evolve further with new accessories so do keep an eye on their Instagram account @walkersjournaluk.
La Fromagerie
When specialist cheese retailer La Fromagerie asked the leading design agency for visionary food retailers and producers, Allies Design, to create a swing tag for their 2021 & 2022 Christmas puddings, Aspen Press was invited to produce two simple designs. One in silver hot foil for the puddings without nuts and the other in gold hot foil for the ones with nuts.
Hanna Buck
Talented young artist Hanna Buck, based in Wivenhoe in Essex, uses bright colours to produce vibrant abstract art which she describes as a collection of expressions, experiences and feelings which have been translated onto canvas.
Hanna invited Aspen Press to work with her to produce a series of greetings cards based on her paintings with text hotfoiled onto the cards.
